The Net
Every morning
I cast my net
into the new day
I want to make a whole hearted
cast into a waiting tide
with unwavering trust
but most days the net
is thrown by a will
I don't recognize as my own
the hours are spent
catching, collecting
what moves in the current
and what will I pull up
at the end of the day?
only what you have given
a mysterious catch
fills the net
how much can I hold?
The one who willed me
to cast in the morning
will help me carry it home
Luke 5:4-7
When Jesus finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." Simon answered, "Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.
