I always thought messengers came at night
calling me out of saturated dreams
with immeasurable hours until dawn
alone with my tossing and tears
But you came in the brightness of day
there was no drowsy pretending
everything inside braced and steeled
against what was to come

I begged for this journey
but I didn’t beg for this journey
the bottom of my trust is scraped
at the mingling of known and unknown

Hear my whispered prayer,
"In love you summon.  In love I follow.”

* The last line is from John Bell's song,  "In Love You Summon."

Texas Star

My Texas star hibiscus started with a seed from a friend.

It has survived more than ten winters and steamy summers.

The glossy, true red petals add brilliance to the garden.
