Henry's creek ran fast
a good distance from the house
he shared with Ruth
close enough for me to bring the kite we made
brother dug the worms
daddy carried the fishing poles
we caught the same
puckered mouth perch
standing barefoot on the muddy shore
speaking loudest was the water
as it rippled and rolled
across smooth rocks
we had to jump in
wading at first
then carried by the current
even now
there's hardly a finer way
to spend an afternoon
