life used to fit into itself
part and parcel
spare and square
with room to grow
a bowl of apples
on the kitchen table
take the best and the rest
tumble to fill the space
a box where trinkets
crowd each other
winking and blinking
with the passing of time
a kitchen drawer
with too many spoons
finding there is always
more to store
i sit with the bowl,
the box, the drawer
emptying and filling
longing for room to grow
