To walk outside in the spring means getting surprised by vivid colors and rare blooms. My eye looks for small green shoots coming out of the ground, or knobs of bright green along stems and branches. I run my fingers over smooth new leaves and wait for my favorites to come back to life. An earthworm found in a scoop of dirt is something to smile about and root bound plants are freed from last year's captivity. Cultivating beauty, appreciating life and color, watching for small changes every day makes me feel alive after too many days inside.
"He who loves a garden still his Eden keeps." Amos Bronson Alcott, 1868
