Joy is the amarillis
petals deep and red
petals deep and red
open and lifted
she is striking against
the concrete and clay
her blossom would not be held
underground and unfurled
life too strong to be denied
a hopeful gardner planted her
and he will not be disappointed
sheer and silent joy
blooms for him
